Big brother may soon be watching at a park near you

In the not so distance future you may be watched through a camera to see if you’ve got your helmet on. Frightening but true. It seems that some city council members in Scotts Valley are looking into both a Web camera or police surveillance camera at the park to nab offenders. It’s nice to see that even the Mayor isn’t down with the idea…but we’ll have to wait and see. The issue will be brought up at a City Council meeting later today.

Now that spring has sprung, the dudes behind SF’s glossy little skate zine known as Lowcard and others surrounding Roughneck hardware are putting together a barbeque and junk jam in San Francisco this Saturday the 22nd. The action begins in at high noon in the panhandle at Oak and Masonic.

Skate heads are encouraged to bring skate ramps, obstacles, beverages, and meat and soy products for the grill. Best trick contest winner nabs $100.

Spent this afternoon talking with a fella named lance in between runs at huntington bowl today just two guys in there 30's talking ink and the good ole days of skateing in between cracks about work, beer, old age, "youngsters". while all the underage crowd there seem to be hating on each other, It's nice too meet someone new that is not afriad to talk shop and look "not cool" for not pulling the latest tricks...in other news it was nice to see one young ripper tearing up the bowl warp speed so he could launch HUGE airs OVER the hip OVER the hip like 5 feet OVER that thing...hopefully lance and i will get to ride Modern Wed night. but for now me and the tattooed mason share tuesdays.

Neil Heddings’ Girlfriend Sentenced In Death Of 2-year-old Son

The girlfriend of professional skateboarder Neil Heddings was sentenced to 25 years to life in state prison for killing his 2-year-old son.

A jury convicted Heddings’ girlfriend, Christine “Pinky” Rams, 27, of second-degree murder and assault in November 2005.

Coroner’s officials determined that Marcus Heddings died in November 2002 as a result of several blows to the head.

Heddings, 31, was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and sentenced to six years in state prison for the death. Prosecutors said he failed to protect his son and prevent his death.

“The evidence in this case was clear,” Deputy District Attorney Kelly Hansen said. “That little boy died at the hands of that woman.”

SoHo Not So Stoked On Etnies

The New York Times reports that the folks who live next to Etnies new SoHo building aren’t too happy about their new roof top ramp. From the article:

“You’ve got a lot of wealthy people that live in lofts that back up to there that aren’t going to be very happy if this becomes a regular occurrence,” said Martin Levine, a real estate appraiser who lives in the same building as Ms. Schiffman. “It’s a playground up on the roof.”

Yup, it’s been announced that Jason Jessee will be joining the Santa Cruz Veteran’s Division. It seem like this will be an interesting relationship.

From their website: “After a little friendly persuasion, he agreed - as long as we understood that “it’s not going to be easy to work with me” - that was back in September 2005. Eight months later, Jason’s debut model on the Veteran’s Division titled “Rape of Liberty” is due to release this month.”

Quicksilver moves to Sweden

For the past six years, Quiksilver has held its highly celebrated Bowlriders event at the skatepark on the Mediterranean shores of Marseille, France. The international skate gathering has always been loaded with great times and action packed jams surrounded by a beach party atmosphere with great success.

During the span of those years, skateboarding progressed well beyond the first competitions held there. Simply put, the level of skateboarding for the annual Bowlriders gathering in Marseille had outgrown the world famous skatepark’s mini ramp-sized walls. Last summer it became evident that it was time to move the event forward and a change of scenery was in order to give the Bowlriders a new dimension.

This official press release (PDF) from Quiksilver announces the move of the international bowlriding event to the new skatepark, Stapelbäddsparken in Malmo, Sweden next month. Hope to see you there. It’s gonna be a good one, but perhaps just a little bit colder.

New For 2006 - The Quiksilver Bowlriders Qualification Series.
This year for the first time ever, Quiksilver will run a qualification series globally to discover the best bowlriders and give them a chance to go head to head with the worlds best. The winner of each series will win as a “Wild Card” entry an all expenses paid trip to Malmo, Sweden to compete among the heavy hitters in the finals. In the past the Bowlriders event was run on an invite only basis.

Well it's been a hectic week...hellish almost. rough at work, broke off my ass, and just one of those nothing goes right type of weeks. But through them clouds comes a little sun. This weekend was good for me working on the 51' was fun, putting some stuff up on here was a nice change getting me away from the myspace a little (i'll have much more up next week) got some rad rad shit at the market this week recomendations for summer from the box are Downeys salt & vinager chips (from the lovely waterford michigan, Bells Oberon Ale (which is always a fave but they just started putting it out for the season) and Aidels Chorizo turkey & chicken susages (fucking the best ever, 5.99 for 6 at holiday market in royal oak but well worth it) great off the grill but good in other things like some jumbalya. and speaking of grills this week not only affords me the chance to skate but i'm getting some new cast iron grates for the grill...that means summers coming....now if i only had the loot to start on the new and improved Manhandler (which seems like will never happen) then Bro B Q's would be on all summer long. other dumb ass recomendations are Vic Firth dave weckl sticks, red devil sawsall blades, and some ole terry reid on the ole record player (two of my fave songs of his. seeds of memory, & to be treated rite). and last but not least the movie "the worlds fastest indian" it really struck acord with me Anthony Hopkins best in my opinon his tears when he finally got to Bonneville were amazing, short synopsis * Anthony plays the role of a man from new zeland who goes against all odds to get to speed week in bonneville in 1962 this true story tells the hard work and shitty luck a man can have and at his old age just trying to accomplish a life long dream before his death, it also shows how good some people can be to others.....his land speed record has STILL to this day not been broken. its a great movie about a DIY guy in the worst of situations trying to come out ahead..) after seeing it I had to call my fater and get him to go with me this week to see it again. It really is a must see. This week shall be a good one skating for both me and my girl (she'll be back at Derby this week for good) and outdoor grilling hopefully, more work on bothe the 51' truck and the bullitt, and an appointment to see world renowned Jeffrey Lee Shea for some stikin.......

Well as i sit here at my kitchen table overlooking the rainy ass detroit weather on this saturday afternoon, i realized i been devoting alot of my time to bullshit and i have had many requests to start the pinebox back up. Not an easy task due to the fact that i had gone through a few hard drives since the last update, and lost the passwords to my updater..but i spent the morning fixing it all and revamping the old site. a 1/4 bottle of stoli and 3 hours later it is up again. I posted this post as my last post today just incase you don't read this back wards....so yes we are back a few changes..fuck the onion we got a new site for the truth click the "daily grind" for the link, we just may post some porn on here i mean hey you can't get on the interweb without stumblin' on some of that right?. And I will be doing the daily grind every day as my personal little journal but I'm thinking every 2 days or so for real skate news and picture updates, just for the fact that before i'd have like 20 updates a day and i' like to spread it out so theres more per week and less daily updates average for me.....so enjoy!

DC is proud to announce it has brought on Jeff Pang for the newly created position of Skate Promotions Manager for the East Coast.

In his new role, Jeff will be responsible for building and managing the East Coast flow team, organizing and attending East Coast events and developing East Coast grassroots marketing and product plans. Jeff has dedicated his life to skateboarding, and will play a tremendous role in increasing DC’s East Coast presence, especially in New York City.

Jeff comes to DC from Zoo York, where he was a team rider from 1994 to 1999, and for the past six years served as Skate Team Manager. As an amateur skateboarder, he rode for the highly influential Shut Skateboards, and became NYC’s first pro while riding for Underworld Element in 1992, which later became Element Skateboards.

This just in from our clever friends that bring you Crailtap. It appears that Stussy has filed a lawsuit against Freshjive for trademark and logo infringement stemming from its planned “Mad Parody” series of clothing items due to hit the shelves this month.

As the heads at Freshjive point out, “Parodies are traditionally known to have social and political significance. There is a free speech issue at the helm of this situation as well.” We tend to agree; especially when a clothing company such as Stussy can feel it’s right to pursue and maintain a legal stand with all of these skeletons in their closet.

Williams, who has been seen sporting skate wear in his videos and rocking a gold skateboard necklace has recruited Terry Kennedy as their first pro rider. Williams’ younger brother is also a team rider and puts it this way,”We’re gonna show that skating is not just about jumping off stuff and defacing property,” says Pharrell’s younger brother and team member Kato Williams.”It’s a positive art and we are artists. We’re just freestyling with our feet instead of our mouths.” Interesting.

There’s an entire chapter devoted to the women who ride on planks with four wheels as well. Throughout the book there are several page stopping photographs that will most likely bring you back to a place within your own personal skate history. The images move you and put these accounts into motion.The world of street skating is touched upon, albeit primarily as glimpse into the crews that skate the environments and regions around New York. And given its overt popularity, those that determine skating purely as rails, gaps, stairs and ledges will feel somewhat slighted that there aren’t more chapters focused on street terrain tales.One of my favorite chapters has to be, “The Great Beyond: Upside Down.” Which takes you through the recollections of Bob Burnquist growing up as a young kid in São Paulo, Brazil to his emergence on the North American vert skate scene in 1995. From there, Hamm’s text turns you upside down as an insider to Bob’s mind-blowing make or break attempt at the legendary Mt. Baldy pipe years later. However, it does seem a bit odd that there is no mention of Bob’s mind-blowing switch loop accomplishment at the Skatepark of Tampa in 2001. This is an unfathomable benchmark in skating that will perhaps never be matched by anyone ever in our lifetimes.The closing pages leads you through the trials and tribulations of Mark “Red” Scott, Sage Bolyard and Mark Hubbard the other creators of Portland, Oregon’s famed Burnside Project. Hamm joined up with Red and his Dreamland crew during their stints of pouring concrete at the skatepark in Hailey, Idaho in 2002. He traveled back to pen together a chapter that informs the reader of how a small group of Northwest skaters began to pour concrete to create their own skatespot and serendipitously kick started their own “design and build” skatepark companies. *(Dreamland and Grindline are now considered among the two most creative and progressive park builders today.)Scarred For Life is a book written by someone who gets it first hand. etnies Skatepark to Shut Down

This could very well be an April Fools’ joke, but it has been brought to our attention that the etnies skatepark in Lake Forest, California will be closing it gates for good in 90 days. The etnies site reports that numerous injuries, acts of vandalism, fights between skaters and BMXers and a slew of complaints of abuse from the surrounding businesses near the park have all taken their toll on the city officials. The last day for skating the park will be June 30th with demolition to follow soon after.

We now wonder where etnies’ 2nd annual “Goofy vs Regular” event will be held now that their backyard will become a community garden and dog park. Nonetheless, skateboarding will carry on just fine. We’ll keep you posted.

With the recent demise of Lecacy skateboards, its former roster of talented riders have been on the hunt for new sponsors. Soon enough, Matt Mumford landed a solid spot on the Label, Australian gnarler Shane Cross is on Flip’s program, and Justin Strubing has been seen riding several decks endorsed of the Tiltmode variety…hmmm. We certainly hope that Pat Duffy’s legendary status and skills will secure him to the rebirthed Plan B clan.

And after proving his might and skateboarding mastery in print, video and in the contest realm, a dark horse no longer, Dennis “Booze-n-tits” Busenitz has been added to the DVS roster. He’s already working on another jaw dropper just in time for their upcoming film, Skate More.

Skateboarder Files Federal Lawsuit Against Police Officer

A Black student from Palo Alto California filed a federal lawsuit against a white police officer last week, claiming the officer “shook him violently” last year before giving him a ticket for skateboarding to school without a helmet. Lawyers for Jameel Douglas, who was 14 years old at the time, allege Officer Brad Kilpatrick violated Jameel’s civil rights by using excessive force, caused the student emotional distress and targeted him because of his race. The long-anticipated lawsuit also accuses the city of failing to properly train the officer. The lawsuit centers around an encounter Jameel had with Kilpatrick on March 3, 2004. Jameel, then a Terman Middle School student, was skateboarding to school without a helmet that morning when Kilpatrick approached on his motorcycle. The lawsuit claims that Kilpatrick picked up Jameel “in a fit of rage,” shocking and horrifying those who witnessed the episode.”

It’ll be interesting to see what happens with this one…skateboarding will always be a crime.

Jenkintown, Pennsylvania - The Patrick Kerr Skateboard Scholarship announced that professional skateboarder Mike Vallely has pledged to sponsor a $2,000 college scholarship.The recipient of the scholarship, to be known as the Mike V. ‘Stand Strong’ scholarship, will be chosen for their activism on behalf of skateboarders. C1RCA presents the “4th Annual Phoenix Am Contest” from April 1st - 3rd, 2005 at Desert West Skateboard Plaza in Phoenix, AZ. Only 100 spots will be available for legitimate industry sponsored skaters. The cash purse for this years contest is over $5,000!

Anyhow, the 100 amatuer skaters will compete on Saturday April 2 to qualify for Sunday’s elimination and final round where the 1st place contestant will walk away with a top prize of $2,000 (2nd place -$1,000, and 3rd place - $500). The highlight of Sunday will be the Best Trick contest presented by Zoo York awarding the best am with $2,000.

Since 2002, Cowtown Skateboards has put on one of the best industry focused Amateur contests with a prize purse each year. Nike SB and P Rod’s “Son Los Zapatos?” Mini Tour

Nike SB along with Paul Rodriguez will be rolling a short tour through AZ and CA to kick off the launch of his new signature model, the Zoom Air Paul Rodriguez. The shoe is both Paul’s and Nike Skateboarding’s first signature model.
Paul will be joined by ams Wieger Van Wageningen, Dan Murphy, Omar Salazar, Dylan Rieder and Grant Taylor for an appearance and signing at the Industrial Rideshop in Phoenix on March 31.

The ams will be sticking around in Phoenix for the weekend to compete in the annual Phoenix Am Contest.

The following weekend, Paul and the ams will be regrouping with Richard Mulder, Danny Supa and Daniel Shimizu in California for a skate demo and signing at the Chino Active Ride shop on Saturday April 9.

X Games 11 Set for Los Angeles

ESPN has announced that the 11th annual X Games will be held in and around Los Angeles for a third consecutive year. Among other events and venues, the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles will most likely host all of the scheduled skateboarding events from August 4th-7th, 2005. As with last summer, all skateboarding competitions will be determined on an invitational basis by a select committee.

.......ola....long time yes i know...here is the state of things....... one... a part broke of my cellphone,the screen on the front dont work and neither does caller id, the battery lasts about 4 calls...so i'm guessing i need to hit t-moblie up before it dies on me........two.....happy to be working again....well at least for another week then i'm layed off again.....three....kids are healthy/happy/and berserk.......four......skating the ramp again as much as i can it got wet as ass last night though cuz my dumb ass didn't cover it.....five...stang is going up for sale i need to get my life and priorities in order and that is a big pain in the financial ass so it's history...six.....from what i hear the ollie to tail revert is the in trick if your man enough to throw it down.....if not just take your little baby nuts around the block and shut the fuck up.......

After months of exploring the realms of website development, (reading and writing code, sizing images, logos and the like) the guys who actually film and create the videos at DC Shoes have finally managed to craft and launch a site of their own, dcfilms.com.

The site is slated be updated every day with skate team news, photos, & videos.

Also, each month there will be a new movie clip created just for the site’s viewers. Posted on the site now are two to check out: The first follows D. Way out to Austria where he underwent artificial ACL replacement surgery without anesthesia. Gnarly! The other reveals a montage of new skate footy featuring Devine Calloway, Ryan Gallant, Darrell Stanton, Ryan Smith, and Lindsey Robertson.

The site plans to be giving away limited edition t-shirts to the first 300 visitors.
